Come join us at Chess Club to play some friendly games, and maybe even learn a new strategy or two! This is a weekly club suitable for all!

Welcome to the Chess Club!

Come join us for some exciting chess matches at our in-person event located at 49 Barton Rd. Whether you're a beginner looking to learn the game or a seasoned pro seeking worthy opponents, our club is the perfect place to test your skills and have a great time.

Chess Club is a fantastic opportunity to meet new people who share your passion for chess and engage in friendly competition. So, dust off your chessboard, sharpen your strategies, and get ready to make your move!

Learning chess is more than just a game—it's a powerful tool for developing critical life skills. Chess teaches patience, foresight, and strategic thinking, helping children build strong problem-solving techniques that benefit them in school and beyond. As parents, it's important we lead by example, showing our children the value of thinking ahead, learning from mistakes, and making thoughtful decisions.

The beauty of chess lies in how its lessons mirror real life—every move has consequences, and every challenge can be approached with calm and logic. It exercises the brain in a completely different way, encouraging creativity, resilience, and focus. By encouraging our children to play chess, we’re not just keeping them entertained—we’re helping shape thoughtful, capable minds for the future.

Our First Session on the 23rd of June is FREE - Club will be £3 every week, payable in 4-week blocks.

Payment in advance after the taster session so that we know the number of children that will be attending.

Under 7's are welcome, however, parents will have to stay with them. They will be permitted to leave after 30 minutes if neccessary.

Does my child need to know how to play chess to join?

Not at all! We welcome complete beginners as well as those with some experience. Our sessions are designed to support all skill levels and help everyone progress. The Chess Master will teach the foundations.

What will my child learn in the club?

Your child will learn the rules of chess, basic and advanced strategies, how to think ahead, problem-solve, and develop concentration. Most importantly, they’ll have fun while learning!

How can chess help my child outside of the club?

Chess strengthens memory, improves decision-making, boosts maths and reading skills, and builds patience and resilience. These skills are transferable to school, relationships, and life in general.
